I'm excited to begin a new year of "geo-trekking" through Oregon!

Last year was great fun exploring new places in addition to old familiar ones while hunting down those elusive geocaches.

Here is a short list of areas I plan to geocache and tour:

Painted Hills – stunning photographic opportunity

Crater Lake – spectacular geographic phenomenon

Tillamook – ocean views, cheese factory and aviation museum

Other places I hope to visit are the Blue Mountains of the northeast corner, Steens Mountain, Rogue River Trail, Columbia Gorge and Portland’s newest natural area – Cooper Mountain. Leave a comment if there is a specific place you would like to read about and I’ll do my best to get there! No matter where you pick, I’m sure there is a geocache nearby and that’s motivation enough for me!

I would love to visit several more sites but they will likely have to wait for another year. Looking forward to retirement in the next few years so I can get around to many more areas each year. Oregon has such diversity of climate, terrain and natural resources that I think I can stay busy for quite some time!

Stay tuned……….

The first geocache ever placed was right here in Oregon. In May 2000, a black bucket was hidden along a rural road in Clackamas county, it's waypoint shared online and geocaching was born!

We Oregonians have the distinct honor of hosting the very first geocache – placed on May 3, 2000 in the shadow of Mt. Hood near Estacada. The original container is long gone but a commemorative plaque was placed in 2003. Many geocachers make their way to this “Mecca of Geocaching” to pay homage and often to commemorate a personal geocaching milestone . I made the trip, for example, to commemorate 1000 geocaches found.

Introducing a blog to promote geocaching as a means of exploring and enjoying Oregon's vast outdoors. I wander to the four corners of the state and report what I see. Given Oregon's great diversity of landscape, I should never run out of new material.

Welcome to Geocache Oregon!

My wife and I hope this blog will entertain, inform and encourage you to get out and explore our spectacularly diverse state and have a little fun through the world-wide outdoor phenomenon of geocaching.

For the most part, posts will showcase a specific place or region of Oregon and how searching for geocaches brought us there.

In addition, there will be topics specific to geocaching such as GPS units, paperless geocaching, how-to tutorials and associated resources.

Please understand that if you don’t see many posts about a specific region of interest to you – we’ll get there! We still have full-time vocations but plan several outings each year in our little T@B RV.

Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter!
