My wife’s Mothers Day wish was to go on a photo shoot down the coast to the Gold Beach and Rogue River area. Of course, I managed to slip a few geocache hunts into the agenda.
The beauty of the McKenzie River corridor and it’s multitude of recreational opportunities makes it nearly impossible to rush driving this stretch of Highway 126, as I found out on a recent day-trip to Bend and back from the coast.
The high desert of Deschutes County is a stark contrast to our home on the lush green Oregon coast. In August of 2008, we thoroughly enjoyed a weeks vacation there exploring the many geologic formations dominating the landscape.
Most of my geocaching adventures occur on the Oregon coast where I live. Today’s excursion takes place along a beautifully rugged segment just south of Gold Beach at Cape Sebastian.
The first geocache ever placed was right here in Oregon. In May 2000, a black bucket was hidden along a rural road in Clackamas county, it’s waypoint shared online and geocaching was born!
Introducing a blog to promote geocaching as a means of exploring and enjoying Oregon’s vast outdoors. I wander to the four corners of the state and report what I see. Given Oregon’s great diversity of landscape, I should never run out of new material.
